See and Do in Johnson

Built in 1900, the Train Station and Depot was the hub of shipping activity with its cotton platform and cattle pen, added in 1907. For many years, trains were the primary mode of travel between local communities and the station’s ticket window was bustling. The whistle of the beloved “Wiggle & Twist” or Wrightsville-Tennille line warmed hearts on its daily passage. Time waits for no one and nothing as the structure was sold to Southern Railway and later closed in 1970 due to economic conditions.

The depot was restored during the 1990s and today houses the Wrightsville–Johnson County Chamber of Commerce and the Johnson County Development Authority. It is also used for faculty meetings and events.
