The Brown House Museum

The Brown House Museum is located on North Harris Street and is one of several beautifully restored mostly Victorian homes just off the square. North Harris Stree was formerly known as Silk Stocking Street because affluent ladies would hang their silk stockings over the porch railings advertising their wealth.

Warthen Old Jail  (Georgia’s Oldest Jail)

The oldest Jail in Georgia is in Warthen on Highway 15 and is a neat little roadside attraction when traveling on the Traditions Highway. The most famous prisoner was Aaron Burr, 3rd Vice President of the United States who was being taken to Richmond, VA to stand trial for treason. Burr has already killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel by this time.
