Oconee County, Watkinsville, GA









Learn about Greensboro’s rich history with the Solar Box Tour, a captivating exploration of the city’s past. While you’re taking a photo-op with the downtown mural on Main Street, take a minute to hear stories about downtown from historian Joel Mcray. Then, stop on East Greene Street to hear tales about the Old Gaol and Wyatt Jail before exploring these sites for yourself! Your next points of adventure will be at the Historic Cemetery on Richland Avenue, the Dr. Baber House on North East Street, Historic Springfield Church, and finally a stop at the Greensboro Depot. Hancock County


In downtown Sparta, the murals provide a picturesque backdrop for a selfie. From the bee and butterfly murals to the pocket garden mural featuring Bishop Holsey and Bishop Pierce, each tells a unique story of the community. Taking a selfie in front of these vibrant artworks captures the beauty of small-town life intertwined with history and nature.

One of Sparta’s historic landmarks would be a wonderful place to see and visit. There is a Georgia on My Mind voice box just off the porch that features interesting stories and history of the building. The stories those old, crackled walls could tell!
Washington County
In downtown Sandersville, a series of great murals captures the beauty of the town’s history and spirit. Among them, a sentimental refreshment invites visitors to snap a selfie in front of a vintage Coca-Cola advertisement. Nearby, a mural celebrates the achievements of a local Olympic Gold Medalist, while another pays tribute to Private Willie Lee Duckworth, Sr.. These murals serve as vibrant reminders of Sandersville’s rich heritage and community pride.
Nestled amidst echoes of the past, Hamburg State Park offers a blend of history and outdoor pursuits. Situated by Hamburg Lake, the campground has shaded sites with modern amenities including hot showers and electric hookups. Anglers can reel in bass, crappie, and bream, while wildlife enthusiasts can spot turtles, alligators, and various birds. The park features a functioning 1921 gristmill and a museum showcasing antique agricultural tools from rural Georgia.
Tennille, GA’s train depot, a post-war reconstruction, stands as a quiet yet significant landmark. Its charming patio offers a spot to watch passing trains, while nearby, a historical marker tells of the history of Tennille and how Sherman’s march nearly destroyed the railroad. This space is also part of the Jefferson Davis Heritage Trail, and is a place where history and present converge.
